Value of the Pound is a UK blog about credit and borrowing that explains how credit scores and reports work, as well as what lenders look for in potential borrowers, how student loans really work and – on a bigger scale – how money came to be as it is today. It’s not for those looking for the latest quick-fix tactic but for those trying to work out the terms and conditions of a loan before they sign on the dotted line.
In addition to these core articles the site’s archive contains a number of older articles on topics such as saving, investing, making extra money at side jobs and travelling. We will be revisiting and updating these articles in time.
Each article is written to answer a question most likely to occur to a reader and this is answered from primary sources wherever possible. Links are provided to the relevant primary sources such as GOV.UK, legislation.gov.uk, the Information Commissioner’s Office, the Office for National Statistics and the Bank of England so that the reader can verify the information for themselves. For annually updating figures (such as repayment thresholds and interest rates) we provide a link to the current number on the relevant official webpage.
Articles on the site are written by writers under pen names. The writers are not financial advisers and the articles are not to be used as personal financial advice and if you are considering making a major financial decision then you should speak to a regulated financial adviser or a free and impartial service such as MoneyHelper. Choosing topics, checking facts and handling corrections are covered in our editorial policy.
